Touching Base With The New Australian Education Counsellor
By Andee Yeo
SainsKu was pleasantly surprised when the new Education Counsellor at the Australian High Commission included us in her busy Sarawak itinerary last week. Ms. Louise McSorley - together with Ms Nha Linh Thai, Strategic Projects Manager at AEI (Australian Education International) KL – arrived early Friday morning, the 5th March 2010, and was welcomed by the Principal and members of her management team.
Ms McSorley and Ms Thai were then feted at a special assembly in the school hall where they were officially welcomed. In her speech, Ms McSorley thanked the Principal and the school for the warm and friendly welcome. She spoke of the long history between Sarawak and Australia and is looking forward to a future of further collaboration with SainsKu as Australia’s only High School linkage in the state.
The SainsKu Wind Orchestra performed two pieces – “The theme from Pirates of the Caribbean” and the “Hula-Hoop and Tanah Pusaka” medley – in honour of the visit and as a reply to Ms McSorley’s speech.
The Principal and Ms. McSorley exchanged gifts at the end of the assembly before leaving for Swinburne Sarawak Institute of Technology . Indeed, SainsKu looks forward to developing a strong working relationship with her and her team at the Australian High Commission.
